Water management
Surge worked with RWAs and large institutions to implement several rainwater harvesting initiatives, around 187units have been installed so far. These are designed to be a cost-effective rainwater harvesting solution, in close consultation with the Central Ground Water Commission, Centre for Science and Environment, and other NGOs.
The rainwater harvesting system so designed has a capacity to handle over 3000lts/hr of water and can remove both bio-degradable and non-degradable waste using natural filtration techniques.
SIKANDURPUR WATERSHED PROJECT
Spread over 90 acres, stretched up to the Gurgaon-Faridabad road. Sikanderpur is a historical village on Delhi-Gurgaon border, next to which is a large pond, created by blockage of a
seasonal stream that originated in the hills behind the residential colony.
The pond was a cesspool of sewage and waste water it receives from the Sikanderpur village, and neighbouring office complexes. It was covered by water hyacinths and has been encroached on several sides by migrant laborer's who have settled in the area.
The objective of the project was to develop the Sikanderpur pond and watershed into a wetland and biodiversity hotspot, with clean water and forestation to create a green lung
for Gurgaon while providing a public space in a natural environment for leisure and community activities. Sikandarpur Pahari is not just another restored forest. It welcomes a change
in public perception: towards a greener tomorrow, towards collective ownership of spaces such as forests, and towards pride and participation in the city's regeneration
